Sabotage - Thesaurus MA saves his master

The camp was amazed and in shock…

Ferotous had never returned before in such a state. Thesaurus knew some of the bigger Nobz must be considering a challenge to Warboss. Thesaurus managed to get Ferotous back to his own Mek shop without a challenge. Dispite limping so heavily, no-one jumped the boss. Such was the fear and awe the other orks had in Ferotous.

Thesaurus had to work fast. His position as sidekick of the warboss was at risk here as well as his Guardians life.

Thesaurus started work which surpassed the highest quality work of the most skilful painboy. Thesaurus measured and cut along the line he had drawn. This was the most technologically advanced surgery in the history of the Greenskin race.  For 3 hours the only noises you could hear from Ferotous workshop were buzzsaw, drill, rivet gun, blowtorch and the occasional hammering noise. Thesaurus worked tirelessly.

After the operation Ferotous woke from his slumber following the surgery. There was an unholy roar:

“CAAAAALLLLGUAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH”

On the surface Ferotous just looked battered and bruised, but just centimetres’ under his skin his body was infused with scrap metal, whatnots and gizmos.  Thesaurus had not only saved his master, but he had amplified his body like never before.  Ferotous was not really in a suitable position to fight still, however he had to gain control of his horde.

He defeated a number of rivals over the next few hours following the surgery. He was impressed by the work Thesaurus had done and felt that was remarkably more durable thanks to the improvements. Within a few days order had largely been resolved.

Ferotous had figured out that he had completed his objective. The Marines were crippled around the town of Hulthunsar. He was not able to capitalise on the advantage as he had to ensure loyalty within the warband.

The Marines had gained the initiative. Whilst waiting to see the Marine next move, Ferotous and Theasaurus started work on the biggest project to date.

Following defeat at Calgars hand, Ferotous and Thesaurus MA start work on their new secret project!

Sabotage - Calgar's Journal

+++++Taken from Marneus Augustus Calgar's Journal+++++

It is the eve following the most recent large scale battle with the Greenskin. I had arrived to admonish the marines for their failure on the outskirts of the hive city in the previous battle.

I was surprised at how quickly the assault came. The power plant was between the defensive line and the woodland that the Orks came pouring out of.

The power generator, which we moved to a defensible position, hidden in an old graveyard well within the perimeter, was stormed by meganobz in a pair of trucks.

My battle brothers were caught flat-footed. Telion opened up with the quad gun, but was overwhelmed and rendered unconscious by marauding Orks with flamers. We managed to secure him and he is recovering. I'm glad. The perminant loss of Telion would have been tragic. I'm sure his insight into the battle will prove useful.

The 4 Tactical squads unloaded their holy bolters, but succumbed to ravening Ork charges. The generator was captured and destroyed even as thirty Ork boyz crashed through the windows of the power plant. With the power generator down, the Orks were free to blow the place up-and they did just that! They did not care for their own losses. At least 30 Ork Boys were within the building as it blew.

Air support arrived, but it was eventually gunned down using the quad gun that the Orks had stolen from Telion. For all we know of the Orks, they often prove resourceful.

It was at this time I allowed the righteous anger of the Emperor to control me. The Primary mission we had failed. I knew I had to rip the heart out of this monster. I lead my tactical squad into battle against a group of meganobz. We ripped them apart ripped apart.

Through the smog of the burning plant, with deffcopters whirring overhead, I spotted this infamous warlord Bluddietooth. He thought the battle was done and was heading away from the fight. Rage consumed me; I boarded the land raider and gave chase, catching the enemy warlord in the ancient ruins of a cathedral. We fought at the top of the failing structure and fought there.
I showed this Xenos a lesson in righteous fury. I connected my left Gauntlet with his jaw, sending him down 3 stories off the Catheral. Whilst I wanted to secure the body, I couldn't leave my battle brothers in the centre alone.
Our scouts have still not secured the body, which has caused me much concern.  Rumour has it that his Ork has extensive Cybernetic implants and there were skuffed footprints. I can only assume he has survived somehow. I must be wary battling this monster.

After the challenge, I turned my attention to rescuing a beleaguered razorback and we managed to halt the tide of Greenskin.

The Orks had been fought off, but the cost in life and resources had been great. With the power and shield generator down, acquiring replacement Heavy support will be difficult. I will have to plan accordingly. I was impressed with the Land Raider - it fought with the same determination that Brother Rexus had shown in the first battle.

Unfortunately Brother Rexus died in the first encounter, but I am glad we have Honoured him last battle. His spirit remains interred with this Land Raider shall be my personal transport for this campaign. We shall make them pay heavily, Brother Rexus.

This war is bigger in scale than the first war. I now know the war for black reach will be a bloody and terrible.

Ultramarines Deploy!

The Green tide sweep over the power station!
The Orks control the power station and have prepared the explosives!
Champion of Humanity, Marneus Calgar against Da Cyborknetic Boss, Dok Ferotous!

Sabotage - Battle Report

The Orks got the first campaign turn and I opted for Sabotage mission. A Logistical mission.

We planned 1750 lists. We both decided to bring our respective Generals of the whole campaign!

The attacker had to ensure they had 3 Fast Attack choices.

In terms of the battlefield, it was a normal battlefield except the Shield Generator was in the middle of the battlefield and the power generator was within the Ultramarines deployment. Edd put the power generator right in the corner of his deployment zone. We set up the battlefield to have to Orks attacking out of the woodland area into a heavily ruined area,

Scoring was spilt into two categories:
Primary objective was worth a huge 5 Points and only the attack could score this.

It required me to get more scoring units (including fast attack) within 3" of the power generator at the end of a turn (i.e. Both of us had done turn 2.) This would power down the power station in the middle. From that point on I was able to blow up the Shield Generator if I had more scoring units within 3" of the shield generator. This would trigger the power station blowing up causing a Str4 or Str 3 hit to everyone on the area of terrain in the centre!

The Secondary objective was kill points. There was no kill the warlord/linebreaker/first blood.

However Calgar did roll 'Champion of Humanity Trait' making Ferotous, if killed by Calgars hand in combat, worth 3 points.

Deployment

Orks won the dice off and I deployed first. Ferotous and his Supa ‘ard boyz went in a trukk next to the other trukk on the right flank. An eye on the Power generator.

In the centre was the unit of sluggas and shoota boyz. Supported by the burnas in the Looted Wagon. I opted to leave the Kommandos and Deffkoptas in reserve.

The Space marines put the defence line to make a wall up to the power station in the centre. Telion and his scouts were placed at the front. Behind them was the Land speeder and Land Raider with Calgar and the large tactical squad. Protecting the right was a tactical squad of 5 in a razorback. Protecting the power generator was a devastator squad, vindicator, a 5 man tactical squad and a rhino with 5 tactical marines.

The Kommandos deployed next to the power station, close to the razorback on the left flank.

Ork Turn 1

The trukks flew full speed forwards. Moving 24” straight to the power generator. The rest of the army went running. The Looted wagon managed to immobilise itself against the power station!
In the shooting phase the army continued to move as fast as possible. The Weridboy accidentally Frazzled himself and wounded himself. The boyz passed the pinning test!

Ultramarines Turn 1

The Vindicator and land raider swapped positions. Vindicator planning to bring its template weapon to bear on the hordes in the centre. The land raider with Calgar looked to challenge the Trukks.

The marines fired rockets but shooting proved unsuccessful. A trukk blew up, and the meganobs got out and weathered the bolter rounds.

Ork Turn 2

The Burnas got out and prepared to charge Telion. The Kommandos lined up a charge on the tactical squad on the right. The Boyz, both shootas and sluggas moved into the power station and over half way. Ferotous got out of his trukk and ran for the power generator.

A Deffkopta arrived and landed near the power generator. The Meganobs lined up a charge on the vindicator.

The ork shooting was largely fruitless. A devastator or two died and the remaining trukk parked up to make a counter charge on Ferotous impossible. Finally the WAAAAGH! was called!

Ferotous charged into the tactical squad and kill them all before any of his supa ‘ard lads could get stuck in. The Meganobz made short work of the Vindicator. The burnas killed the scouts to a man,  rendering him unconscious. Finally the Kommandos killed 4 of the 5 Tactical squad on the right.

Ultramarines Turn 2

The air support arrived for Calgar as the Storm Talon arrived. However the army was battered. Calgar had to concede the power supply as there was no way he could get 2 scoring units within 3” of the power generator. He got out of the land raider and prepared to charge the meganobs.

Meanwhile in the centre all was lost. The razorback turned back so did the land speeder. The Rhino with the tactical squad moved towards the centre.

In the shooting phase many meganobz died. So did a large number of Burnas. The Shoota boyz and Kommandos had large numbers taken out.

Calgar was clearly enraged and proceeded to kill all the meganobz with little help from his tactical squad.

At the end of Turn 2, the Orks had broken the Power generator. All they had to do was hold the power station in the centre.

Ork Turn 3

Ferotous having completed his mission, got back in his Trukk and headed to the middle. The other Deffkopters came on. One deffkopta prepared a charge on the devastators. The Burnas ceased control of the now vacant quad gun the Space Marines had brought, and the Slugga boys swarmed the power station.

In shooting the shootas killed a few devastators and so did Ferotous and his supa ‘ard boyz. The Burnas opened fire with the Quad gun caused a hull point of damage on the Storm Talon!
The Kommandos charged the Razorback doing two points of damage on the Razorback. In Assault the Deffkopta beat the Devastators the last one choose to flee but remained stationary as jumping off the ruins would mean he would jump into the deffkoptas propellors!

Ultramarines Turn 3

Calgar moved to the centre defence line. Meanwhile the remaining serg in one of the tactical squads got his holy bolter rage on and killed 2 of the Kommando with the klaw! The last tactical squad got out of the rhino and a hail of Bolter fire killed all the Burnas bar two of them and the other tactical squad shot down more of the Shootas.

The remaining Devastator managed to blow up Ferotous Trukk. Calgar followed the explosion with a Orbital bombardment and bolter fire that did some decent damage on the Supa ‘ard boyz.

The Power station was uncontested for the Orks and the building was exploded. The boyz stupid enough to stay inside the building were largely unhurt. The Orks had achieved their main mission!

Ork Turn 4

Ferotous, having seen the mission completed stared to withdraw from the battle. The Boyz manned the Quad gun and advanced on the  last tactical squad. The shootas moved to challenge Calgars Tactical squad. Finally the Kommandos prepared to kill the Serg from the tactical squad on the left flank. The Deffkoptas were unleashed. One charged the Devastator, whilst one charged the land speeder and the final one charged the Rhino.

In combat the Deffkoptas killed the Land Speeder, 2 wounds on the rhino and killed the last Devastator. The Kommandos killed the Serg but the Nob was killed in combat, leaving just 2 Kommandos. The Orks managed to miss with the quad gun on the Storm Talon.

Ultramarines Turn 4

Calgar was pissed. At this point the Marines had a Land Raider, Calgar and a tactical squad of 8, A Tactical Squad of 5, a Rhino and Razorback with 1 hull point left and finally a crippled Stormeagle.

Calling in the Land Raider, Calgar prepared to hunt Ferotous to the ends of the earth. The Land Raider proceeded to charge towards Ferotous. Meanwhile the Razorback and Tactical Squad that remained shot down only 1 of the Deffkoptas.

Ork Turn 5

Ferotous, now only with one supa ‘ard boy left, started to move a bit faster away from Calgar. He scaled the ruined Catheral, thinking that he could make use of the smaller space to fight the tactical squad.

The Burnas were practically off the battle at this point and had not rallied. Meanwhile the Orks got close to the 5 man Tactical squad. The Deffkoptas charged the Rhino and a sole Marine on his own that I forgot how he got there killing two more units. The Kommandos charged the razorback. The Shootas ran for cover.

The Ork boyz shot down the Stormeagle with the Quad gun – (Thanks Telion!) – The Kommandos failed to do the final wound on the razorback!

Ultramarines Turn 5

Calgar got out of the Land Raider and charged Ferotous. Meanwhile the Land Raider killed the Shootas down to 1 single Boy who stayed.

The Crippled Razorback finally killed a Deffkopta and the last tactical squad killed the other deffkopta.

Calgar charged and made it into combat.  Ferotous should have refused the challenge – considering Calgar had the ‘Champion of Humanity’ Warlord trait, but pride would not let me back down! The Tactical Marines failed to wound the last supa ‘ard boy, who killed one in reply.

Finally the two great champions met in battle. Both characters had taken 1 wound elsewhere in the battle. Ferotous went first, slamming his klaw into Calgar.  He connected 3 times out of 5. Calgars invulnerable save kept him from harms way. It was the turn of the Gaunlets of Ultramar to teach the Ork a lesson. Out of his 6 attacks , 4 succeed. Ferotous was counting on his Cyborknetics to keep him alive. The first Gauntlet hit Ferotous in the gut, followed by a Jab Ferotous parried with his metallic arm… He didn’t expect a third punch. It was an uppercut straight into the Jaw. The force lifted him airborne and over the crumbling wall, over the edge down a 3 stories to the floor below.

Seeing Ferotous fall like that the last supa ‘ard boy fled, only to cut down as he turned. Convinced the job was complete, Calgar turned to try and inflict more revenge on the remaining Greenskins.

Ferotous was completed knocked out. Only the mechanical parts within him, keep him alive. However Thesaurus had planned for this day.

Unknown the Calgar, Thesaurus had hidden out of sight and scaled down the building to his Warlord. He rebooted Ferotous and managed to drag him to safety.

The end of the game dice was rolled. I was hoping for the game to end!

Ork Turn 6

With the Warboss down, the Orks in the middle didn’t notice. This was a good fight! The Shoota tried to hide the best he could to try and survive the battle. The Slugga boys charged the last Tactical Squad.

The Kommandos, who had spent the whole battle trying to kill a tactical squad and its Razorback, charged the razorback again – this time they remembered their grenades!

The Kommandos managed to get 2 grenades into the Razorback, but they failed to cause the destruction they so badly needed to achieve.

The Ork Boyz did much better. The killed the Tactical Squad to a man.

At this point the Orks had a unit of 15 Slugga Boyz, 1 Shoota Boy and 2 Kommandos.

The Space Marines had Calgar with 6 Tactical marines, a crippled razorback and the Land Raider.

Ultramarines Turn 6

Calgar turned to focus his rage on the remaining Shoota who he prompted killed with his Bolter.
The Razorback finally won the war with the Kommandos, plasma gunning the remaining 2 Kommandos.

Finally the Land Raider killed many of the Ork Boyz, but they didn’t flee.

The end game dice rolled again – and this time it ended.

Result

Final Scores was a whopping 16-15 to the Ultramarines.

Ultramarines – 3 Points for “Champion of Humanity” and 13 Kill Points.
Orks – 5 Points for the primary objective and 10 Kill points.

+++Edit - We got the score wrong - Calgar's Champion of Humanity gets +D3 points, which we forgot to do. Edd did this at a later date and scored a 1! Based on this revised score of 15 - 14 to the Orks!+++

Campaign Repercussions

First of all, Calgar gets Bragging rights. Not only did he win the fight, but the Challenge it won him the game! Yes I could have declined it and just allowed myself to lose via sweeping advance and not throw 3 points away but sod it! I am easily goaded and at times my pride lets me do dumb things!

Edd wins the Logistical card and now only needs 2 more to trigger the mega battle. However because I did the primary mission, Edd cannot use any Heavy support choices next time! HA no more Land Raiders Mr Calgar... Unless you go with some terminators... hmmm... Next time its Edd's choice of battles so he can plan his list to limit the damage.

Sabotage - Komminzar Un'Trogg Kunnin' Plan

After stopping the Ultramarines taking a foothold behind the Ork lines on Black Reach, the Ultramarines had to deploy fully in the Imperial held sector of the planet.

This gave Ferotous and his generals time to prepare their next assault.

The township of Hulthunsar was proving to be a thorn in the Ork invasion. This was a heavily defended town. It had a huge logistical importance to the area. A huge imperial shield generator was stuck in-between the no-mans land between the Ork hordes and the kill zone created by the Ultramarine defence. The important part was the power supply for this generator was still held by the Ultramarines - allowing the shield to function.

The Blood axe boss Komminzar Un'Trogg, leader of the Kommando's on Black Reach had a bold plan. It was tactically sound, even the great Calgar could have seen the level of strategy involved.

The plan had 2 parts. Un'Trogg would let a trusted Nob lead a unit of Kommandos, whilst Admiral Grabba (who was in charge of the air forces and stormboyz) would support the unit by using a mobile force of Deffkoptas, planes and stormboyz. Between the Kommandos and the air support they would destroy the Power generator.

Ferotous thought the plan was far too simple. He decided he would use his resources preparing a huge number of Boyz rather than the specialist troops the Blood Axe bosses suggested. He decided to spearhead a Horde of Boyz and Nobs through the killzone and a small number of Deffkoptas and Kommandos to do the sneaky bits. If the Blood Axes failed, he would just use brute force and crush the Blue Beakies with Orky strength!

Whilst Un'Trogg and Grabba protested saying that more Kommandos and air support would be more useful than throwing ork boyz into the meat grinder, Ferotous would not relent. They knew not to press the issue too far. Afterall the Horde of orks boyz coming from the front would prove a useful distraction to allow them to get the job done.

Ferotous and his generals prepared for battle.

+++++

Calgar was irate at the utter failure of the planetfall mission. He decided he needed to ensure that the next major battle and bolstered the defences outside Hulthunsar. Whilst he did not have the numbers to risk advancing to the Shield generator, he order the defences to be strengthened. Even the huge numbers of the ork horde would struggle to get through the gun line.

As long as the shield remained, he could count on its protection it gave the local area against the Orks long range missiles.

Telion informed Calgar that the Orks were near and preparing a huge assault on the position. Calgar prepared his Gauntlets and made way to battle. Apparently the Ork Warlord himself was to lead the battle. He had a personal mission to end the enemy warlord and halt the WAAAGH! in its tracks.

His forces were ready.

Planetfall - Battle Report

So the first battle was a pitched normal battle and the battlefield was pretty barren. We decided the orks were charging out of the hive city and as the Ultramarines made planetfall to combat the Orks. We spread the 5 objectives nice and fairly.

Edd won the first roll and deployed first. Somewhere in the middle of the game we also decided the winner got to have the first campaign turn and choose the first mission.

Ultramarines Deployment

Won the roll and deployed first. Spread his army. Vehicles in the middle and then squads on the flanks.

Ork Deployment

Deployed with 2 mobs on boys on one flank and tank bustas, battlewagon with boss and meganobs on other flank with a unit of 30 boys in the middle.

Ultramarines Turn 1

Vindicator moved forwards and so did the land raider. Then massive amounts of missiles. Due to Ork boyz spreading out, the damage was huge but not too bad. However the unit of boyz in the centre were nearly wiped out and fled giving first blood to the ultramarines.

Ork Turn 1

The orks moved and ran as fast as possible. The Wagon moved up the flank. The tankbusters moved but were forced to waste their shooting due to glory hogs rule on a rhino miles away.

Ultramarines Turn 2

The Vindicator moved back and the razorback dropped their tactical squad and proceeded to drop their millions of missiles – this time focusing mainly on the battlewagon and smaller unit of shoota boys. The lascannons blew up the wagon and the meganobs took fire but their armour kept them mostly up.

Ork Turn 2

Both Dakka jets came on and the Waaagh! was called. The meganobs advanced to take on the space marine squads on the flank, whilst the other boys advanced. The tankbustas eyes lit up with the land raider and advanced. During shooting the dakka jets went nuts and killed most of the devastators and nearly killed the predator. The tankbustas damaged the landraider and got a lucky 10 inch charge on the raider and prompted blew it up with their tankbusta bombs.

Ultramarines Turn 3

The terminators and the librarian shot and attacked the tankbustas who got lucky and the nob got lucky as hell as his rokkit managed to hit the Librarian and instant death him giving the orks slay the warlord. The Terminators won the assault. Elsewhere the missile launchers of the tactical squads shot down a dakka jet that then proceded to land on the unit of ork shootas – managing to fail to wound! The tactical squads in the rhino sensing the danger of the meganobs started to do a organised retreat.Telion sniped at the warboss and the lascannons shot the meganobz reducing their numbers. The green tide was thinned with bolter and missiles as they got close.

Ork Turn 3

The tankbustas rallied and hid in some barricades. The shoota boys charged the vindicator and the nobz klaw blew the vehicle. The slugga boys tried but failed to charge the tactical squad. The Meganobs charged the tactical squad and made a bloody mess of them. The remaining dakkajet, blew up the land speeder storm.

Ultramarines Turn 4

The rhino picked up a tactical squad and started to advance to the middle objective. Telion fell back and continued to snipe the meganobs. The ork warboss  died to lascannon and sniper fire. This created a large killzone between the meganobz and telion and the lascannons. The Terminators shot and failed to reach the tankbustas in assault. The tactical squads continued to try and shoot down the remaining dakkajet but only did 2 hull points. They also thinned the numbers of slugga and shoota boys even more. The Final Nob of the shoota boys fled.

Orks Turn 4

The Meganobz backed up into a wood to get cover from the lascannons. They also killed a few scouts with shoota fire. The tankbustas tried to shot the rhino and missed. The Slugga boys finally made it into combat and defeated and made the marines flee. The Dakka jet shot some more marines.

Ultramarines Turn 5

We worked out the score. They had the centre objective, first blood and warlord (5) to the orks 2 Objectives, line breaker and warlord (8). The Terminators shot the remaining tankbustas and the tactical squad in the middle shot the fleeing shoota boy Nob. The last two tactical squads tried to gun down the slugga boy squad, but they didn’t kill enough. The orks passed the morale check. The lascannons and Telion continued to reduce the meganobz numbers.

Ork Turn 5

As things stood it was 8-5 to the orks. The Slugga boys would not survive another round of being fired at and charged the tactical squad and reduced their numbers. After winning the fight the nob and one ork boy moved back to claim the objective.  The Dakka jet had to move off the board.

Ultramarines Turn 6

Moved the terminators to claim linebreaker. The lascannons and the telion thinned the meganobs number down to 1. The meganob passed his morale test. The Last few tactical squads did an aweful round of shooting and only did 2 wounds leaving the slugga boy nob alive. However he failed his morale and fell back. At the end of Ultramarines turn 6  they had First blood, linebreaker, slay the warlord and an objective 6 against the orks 5 (linebreaker, warlord and an objective.)

Ork Turn 6

The dakkajet returned back, and the ork slugga nob didn’t rally. The meganob was holding an objective. The Dakka jet fired like mad at the tactical squad holding the middle objective and killed all 5!

The game ended.

The Scores!

Ultramarines 3 – (First blood, linebreaker and slay the warlord)
Orks 5 – (Slay the warlord, linebreaker and an objective)

We forgot to do photos for this fight, as the games initial plan was to be a practice 1650 2 hour game test for an incoming tournament nearby. We did get two photos...

Eager to get into a fight, Da boys just lined up ready to charge!

Planetfall

28.01.956.M41 0537

Jede'ogh was the first planet to report the greenskins. Voldermach and Black Reach followed quickly afterwards.

Within 50 minutes the bulk of the imperial defenses bad fallen. They had destroyed over two thirds of the incoming Ork Roks and Hulks. Imperial records reported over 4000 enemy craft had been successfull shot down. The problem was the third that landed. They could not be stopped, for all the improved defences since the last war.

Voldermach was the weakest of the 3 planets. Communications with it's main settlement, the Capital Hive city of Horijiur ceased at 0857. The planet was lost and a evacuation was attempted.

Jede'ogh held out for 29 hours. By 1100 29.01956.M41 the planet was lost. They managed a successful evacuation of VIP's, resources and specialist to Black Reach.

The Ultramarines announced their incoming support forces were enroute and should arrive within 2 days.

Black Reach still remained in the balance. The southern territories were largely holding back the first wave of Orks. The problem was that the Orks were now landing uncontested in the north of the planet. They were slowly starting to deploy large numbers of specialised Orks and their crude war machines which would overwhelm the defenders.

30.01.956.M41 0834

By the time Calgar and  the 4th Company of the Ultramarines had arrived the Orks controlled 65% of the planets landmass. Calgar identified the Hive city of Sturmeir, recently ruined and pillaged by the orks. The ork forces in the area had not been supported with too many supporting vehicles and therefore were a relatively weak target.

The area surrounding the Hive city was of excellent defensive value and if it could be easily fortified and the Orks would have to expend a large resources to retake the city.

Calgar explained the strategy to his Librarian Accurious. The plan was to land in an area of low activity. A sizeable force would be able to land unchallenged, they could then easily goad the Orks in small numbers and weaken the Greenskins. Eventually Calgar knew that the Orks would gather under control of a warboss, and when this happened, Accurious was to take on this force on the outskirts where the space marines ranged weaponry would be most effective.

30.01.956.M41 1652

The planetfall was successful. Accurious and his force landed and started to mop up small pockets of orks. Finally the orks managed to gather a sizeable horde and were being loosely 'controlled' by a Warboss Fangul. A warboss in a huge suit of Mega-armour.  Using special teknology komminikator devices that Doktor Ferotous had devised for this campaign, Fangul managed to call in some air support. Two Dakkajets were sent to support Fangul and his horde of Boyz.

The first conflict between the Ultramarines and the Orks in the second war for Black Reach was about to start...

The Campaign System

We have decided  to play a system Edd devised. Its broken into 2 turns.

There is a Campaign turn (lasts about 5 minutes!) and a Mission turn which is a full battle.

We agree on a points list (say 1750) and then prepare an army list each. Before the battle we play a campaign turn.

To start we have a deck of cards with missions on (a pool of approx 9 cards each) which we shuffle and draw 3 from. Each card has one of three mission types (Logistical, Strategic and Tactical). The players who campaign turn it is then selects a mission from his deck and we play the mission as detailed on the card.

Just a few of the examples of missions we have created:
Last stand mission - one side is outnumbered but must defend as long as possible.
Danger Ground - the battlefield is struck by bombardments during the battle.
Convoy - escort a vehicle through checkpoints.
City fighting - based on cities of death.

Whoever wins that battle earns the card which will contain a very small reward of some form for the major battle at the end.

Next time we play the other player has his campaign turn and gets to choose a mission from his deck.

The major battle is triggered by one of 3 events.
1) As soon as a player has 3 cards of the same mission type
2) We run out of missions
3) We get bored and both agree

The major battle will be some form or stronghold assault/Escalation super fight - ideally in the 3000-5000 points range. Hopefully there will be an ork stompa!

Finally after the Major battle there is a showdown battle. A small skirmish battle of super bad ass kill teams fighting in an heroic style. Ideally with the two warlords getting their hands dirty in hand to hand! This is inspired by the climax of the original Black Reach, where Captain Cato Sicarius and Zanzag met in combat to decide the outcome of the whole battle.

There is ultimately 4 results possible -
Ultramarine major win - Ultramarines win the Major battle and also the showdown!
Ultramarine minor win - Ultramarines win the Major battle but lose the showdown!
Ork minor win - Orks win the Major battle but lose the showdown!
Ork major win - Orks win the Major battle and also the showdown!
